The Argentina Chapter – Part 4, SPLASH!

14 April 2023

At last, splash day! This is the day that the boat makes the eight or nine block trip through the narrow streets from the boatyard to the boat ramp. It took us only two hours. It’s slow going, towing a 23ft. wide catamaran through the streets requires six men on deck to hack away branches and lift electric and phone wires. There were at least that many on the ground, watching the lower sides, communicating critical info to the driver, cleaning up the tree branches, and of course documenting the move with photos and video. There were also municipal vehicles blocking the streets and locals to recognize any vehicles that weren’t moved ahead of time and call the owners while we all waited… Neighbor boat builders and residents came out to watch the nerve-racking corner turns (there were only four, plus the stunt-man truck-driving required to manoeuvre the boat out of the factory and into the water at the ramp.

Sorella traveled to the boat ramp without her stanchions, life lines and princess seats, which would have just been getting caught in trees along the route.
The tide was so high that the street was flooded--a good omen for there being plenty of water to float the boat in.
Sorella approaching the ramp for splash.
Once we got to the ramp, we climbed up onto the boat so we could be on when she went in the water.
We had a couple of mariposas riding along. Butterflies are a metaphor for change and transformation, comfort, hope, and positivity.
