about us

We're Sara and Stephen (SnS). We've lived together in St. Louis, Missouri for nearly 30 years and have decided it's time to head back to Stephen's sailing roots, so we're going to sell it all and live on an Antares 44 Hybrid Catamaran.

Our careers and interests are many and varied, and as we recreate our lives on the boat, we hope to highlight some of our Talents & Abilities (T&A seems to be pretty popular, we’ve noticed…). Some topics we hope to explore are: Beer and mead (brewing, tasting, pairing, judging) art (Sara’s figure drawing), drumming (Stephen), cat herding, local-food sourcing, cooking, and green living.

Stephen grew up in New England, and aside from summers sailing in Maine, he spent his younger years teaching English and Latin, working as a chimney sweep, scuba diving for sea urchins, and homebrewing. He moved to St. Louis in 1991, to help open the Schlafly Brewery, Missouri’s first brewpub. On opening night, he poured Sara a black and tan, and for her, it was love at first sip…

Sara studied art and spent her time figure drawing, making jewelry and homebrewing before she met Stephen at the brewery and began working there the following summer. After 16 years of brewing, setting up the lab and tasting program, writing the newsletter, designing marketing materials and creating the first website for Schlafly Beer, Sara started a bath and body care business with her sister, Jamie Choler. After a few years, they switched to the local food industry (because food tastes better than soap) and created Fair Shares CCSA, a combined Community Supported Agriculture program in 2008. Fair Shares is still thriving and Sara will be working from afar for as long as possible or necessary.

We love sushi, which doesn’t grow on the fruited plain… Also, we’ve rescued some cats.
